PRiME Celebrates Professor Molly Shoichet's Appointment as the Inaugural Pamela and Paul Austin Chair in Precision and Regenerative Medicine

University Professor Molly Shoichet, Scientific Director of PRiME, has been named the inaugural Pamela and Paul Austin Chair in Precision and Regenerative Medicine. The chair, within the Department of Chemical Engineering & Applied Chemistry, was created in November 2023 via a gift from The P. Austin Family Foundation to strengthen research on personalized approaches to drug delivery, discovery, and tissue regeneration.
Shoichet stated: "Precision medicine, epitomized by the maxim 'the right treatment to the right patient at the right time,' is revolutionizing healthcare worldwide. I am particularly excited to advance our precision medicine strategies in the brain, the eye, and in cancer, with the ultimate goal of making a difference in human health."
Shoichet is internationally renowned for her pioneering work in tissue engineering and drug delivery. The Shoichet lab holds over 40 filed patents which have served as the foundational intellectual property for four spin-off companies. She was the first person elected a Fellow of all three of Canada's National Academies and was awarded the Gerhard Herzberg Canada Gold Medal in 2020.
Dean Christopher Yip remarked that the chair "is a great example of how support from our vibrant, global community is driving innovations that improve human health." Paul Austin added: "Professor Shoichet's work in these areas has been exemplary, and we are proud to support the next phase of her research."
